I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Malik’s passing.  Malik is the Film Director of the popular Searching for SugarMan Documentary that won an Oscar and BAFTA last year for Best Documentary Film.

When I met him last year to interview him for my channel he seemed a genuine person, enthusiastic for the future of his film as this was several months before he won the Oscar.

It is a tragic ending to the journey of this film.  Through his film the musician Rodriguez came alive again and it brought so much hope and joy to the audience and Rodriguez’s fans.  Yet Malik felt this wasn’t enough.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who were involved in the film.  We all live such busy lives and sometimes forget to check up on others around us, both family, friends, colleagues…. even if it is a brief “hello” email it could make such a difference to someone and lift their spirits.
